Cuptale keeps your coffee journal in your own account so it syncs across your devices. It collects only what the journal needs, never sells your data, and keeps your notes out of analytics.
Your account
You sign in with Apple. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, which stores the identifier Apple gives Cuptale, the email address Apple shares (this can be a private relay address if you choose Hide My Email), and your name if Apple shares it on first sign-in. Cuptale does not receive your Apple Account password.
Your journal
The cups and coffees you log are stored in your account on Convex, our database provider, so they sync between your devices. That includes what you drank and when, the brew method and recipe, your rating, taste notes and free-text notes, and for each coffee its name, roaster, origin, process, roast, place, barcode and sticker. Every request is tied to your signed-in account, and other Cuptale users cannot see your journal.
The app keeps a copy of your journal on your device so it opens instantly and works offline. Changes made offline are sent when you are back online.
Camera, photos and stickers
Cuptale uses the camera to read barcodes and to photograph coffee bags, and lets you pick a bag photo from your library. Barcodes are read on your device. When you make a sticker, Apple's Vision framework lifts the bag off the background on your device; only the finished cut-out sticker is uploaded to your account. The original photo is not uploaded.
Barcode lookup
When you scan a bag that is not already in your journal, Cuptale sends only its barcode number to Open Food Facts, a public product database, to suggest a name, brand and origin. No account information is sent with the request.
Analytics and crash reports
Cuptale may send anonymous product analytics to PostHog, such as that a cup was logged or a bag was scanned, so we can see which features are used. These events never include coffee names, notes or other text you type, and session recording is off.
The app uses Sentry for crash and error reports. Sentry is configured not to send default personal information, screenshots, view hierarchies or performance traces. Reports may include the app version, device and system information, the failed operation and technical error details.
Website data
This website has no accounts, forms, advertising, cookies or analytics. It is hosted by Vercel, which may process standard request data such as your IP address, browser details, requested pages and timestamps to deliver and protect the site.
Sharing and transfers
Data is shared only with Apple, Clerk, Convex, Open Food Facts, PostHog, Sentry and Vercel for the purposes above, or when required by law. These providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States, under their terms and privacy safeguards. Cuptale does not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
Deleting your data
You can delete a cup or archive a coffee at any time. To delete everything, open Settings in the app and tap Delete account. This removes every cup, coffee and sticker in your account, and your sign-in account, and cannot be undone. Removing the app only deletes the copy on that device.

Children
Cuptale is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
